Illustration Friday: Rose

I started out with an illustration of the woman using pen and acrylic paint on watercolor paper. Continued on with making hellebore flowers (on background) and the red rose using oil pastel, colored pencil and gel watercolor crayon. Scanned, manipulated and finished in Photoshop.

Illustration Friday: Twins

This piece I had just finished a month or so ago. Acrylic on canvass about twins that have grown into womanhood with lots more things to talk about, to figure out. But sometimes simply basking in the moment of silence with the comfort that the other knows what the other is going through is quite a precious gift when words can't seem to tell it all.

Illustration Friday: Shades

In my past life as a Frame Stylist I came across a woman who had just renovated her turquoise blue convertible with "fins". I can't remember exactly what it's called but when she was talking about it that was the image that came to mind. The color and the time period got me almost half running to show her the turquoise blue frames that we just got. These would look so much fun I say. She got excited too, and had me hold it while she sleeps on it as she had just purchased something already. And the colorful frames are Armanis, that for something fun is still quite expensive. Unfortunately, I was not able to find it a home, although I was able to sell a pair of red frames to a Jennifer Aniston look-alike. Come to think of it, red frames may have been a better contrast to the turquoise blue. I just remember how happy it made me feel knowing I added color to an otherwise predictable frame palette out there. Of course I made sure they look great in them too. The one pair of frames I was hoping somebody would snatch up were these forest green rectangular Emporio Armani frames that folds twice. But the man I had in mind that would have made this the perfect match did not come my way at that time.

Projects

I cleaned up and organized my workspace. Good sign of things to come. It means I am ready. I am feeling good.
I then propped myself in front of the computer and managed to get 121 words in the past two hours. Not bad. Trying to be gentle with myself here. It would have been more words, but then I deleted every other word. That delete button is just so handy. And my internal editor quick to chop.
Then came the part of silence. Of my brain not working. So I glance around my table and chance upon an open notebook with scribbles of ideas for a children's book. Aha. Why not put that in my slew of projects for 2011? Self-designated projects for which I am both boss and worker. Whip cracker and isolated madwoman.
Hmmm...less than a year left and I have not accomplished anything yet, but seem to be just great at adding to the pile: Two happy barking dog paintings, a novel and a children's book.
K, 5 months, 4 projects and 1 happy baby. The math does not seem to add up. But then again, I've never been good at math.

Four People

Out from my trusty accordion case came out this paper with purple and yellow paint. Brought me way back a long time ago when I intended for this to be a card with images of cats (as the should have been recipient was all about her cats). Obviously, it did not fulfill its original purpose. I only had my black pens handy when I came across this again, and so I decided to make them people instead of cats. For some reason, drawing people was more within my comfort level rather than felines at the time. And so it has come to this image of four people. Not sure yet if this is completely done...I'll let it sit for a while, I suppose...

IF: Journey

Sometimes, all it takes (toward a step to happiness) is simply allowing ourselves to take that journey
